Luna Technologies' Optical Backscatter Reflectometer (OBR) was the industry's first ultra-high resolution optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) device with backscatter-level sensitivity for interogating components or systems. The OBR uses swept-wavelength coherent interferometry to measure minute reflections (<0.0003 parts per billion) in an optical system as a function of length with spatial resolutions down to 40 µm. This technique measures the full scalar response, including both phase and amplitude information in terms of the system transfer function. The OBR measures optical paths up to 30 m long with no dead zones. It measures group delay changes up to 150 ns. The OBR provides 60 dB fo dynamic range and -125 dB sensitivity, resolving individual features with spatial resolution down to 40 µm.
