Providing the Groundwork for the
Integration of Research and Applications in the Region

At UNC Charlotte, we are growing a new Center built on existing expertise and facilities in Optoelectronics technology. Our photonics research emphasis is broad but with a strong focus on smart integrated optical devices:

Optoelectronic devices and sub-assemblies Devices for telecommunications, sensors, and characterization Active and passive photonic devices Integrated optics and packaging Optical materials (semiconductors, polymer-organic and crystalline) Optical metrology Optical imaging Optical communication networks

These areas are critical to the acceleration of future enabling optoelectronics technologies, for example in manufacturing components for local optical networking. Our integrated research approach, across both disciplines and industries, is grounded in materials, processing, fabrication, measurement and characterization.
