Solar Optical Design: It's an Imaging Problem

PDF FILE DOWNLOAD:

PDF (1 MB)

Solar optical design principles are the same as those used in radiometer and detector optics. A review of the basics of pupil imaging and direct imaging of the sun will be presented.  Using optics increases cell efficiency while reducing the cell footprint in CPV systems.  Current designs and fabrication challenges will be reviewed.

Michael Sullivan has a background in optical engineering and consulting in the medical device, telecommunications and aerospace industries with over 27 years of optical sensor development and program management experience. Mr. Sullivan was previously Co-Founder and CEO of Centice Corporation. Prior to that, he was Manager of Duke's Fitzpatrick Center and a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  In addition, his experience includes Principal roles in product strategy and development for early stage companies such OptXCon, Retinapharna Technologies, Animas Corporation, Cytometrics and Karl Storz Imaging.
