Solar optical design principles are the same as those used in radiometer and detector optics. A review of the basics of pupil imaging and direct imaging of the sun will be presented. Using optics increases cell efficiency while reducing the cell footprint in CPV systems. Current designs and fabrication challenges will be reviewed.
