We are seeking to fill the following 3 positions at the Naval Research Laboratory. US citizenship or green card and ability to obtain a security clearance are necessary.

Materials Scientist – BS / MS level
We are seeking a full-time glass technician with a BS/MS degree in materials science or a related field.  The person will learn to purify elemental materials, synthesize glass compositions, draw and characterize optical fibers and fabricate fiber preforms by casting and extrusion.  The successful candidate should have at least some experience in a research laboratory setting.  Experience in the specific areas mentioned above is preferred but not required.  This is a hands-on research position and attention to detail is essential. Ability to obtain a security clearance is necessary.

Thin Film Photovoltaics – PhD / MS level
We are seeking a full-time materials scientist / research physicist at PhD/MS level to conduct research on thin film inorganic photovoltaics and other thin film devices. The candidate should possess expertise in thin film deposition and/or characterization, with special emphasis placed on prior experience with thin film photovoltaics. The position involves designing and maintaining vacuum deposition apparatus, synthesizing films and devices, and taking and analyzing data. A detailed understanding of the operation of photovoltaic devices and knowledge of relevant materials issues are desired. Ability to obtain a security clearance is necessary.

Optical Physicist/Fiber Engineer - PhD / MS level
We are seeking a Masters or PhD in Optical Physics or Engineering. The position requires someone with hands-on experience in fiber optics and fiber lasers.  Experience with fusion splicing, fiber optic components, and fiber preparation is necessary.  Experience with solid state lasers, nonlinear optics, and specialty fiber optic materials is a plus.  Ability to obtain a security clearance is necessary.
