Spring '08 Seminar Series
Concludes for Semester

April 25th

The Spring '08 Seminar Series concluded Friday the 25th of April with a presentation by Dr. Nader Engheta, the H. Nedwill Ramsey Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering, and Professor of Bioengineering, of the University of Pennsylvania. His seminar covered,
"Circuits with Light at the Nanoscale."
Abstract and Biography available
PDF (67 KB).

April 18th

Dr. Miguel Alonso
, Associate Professor at the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics presented the penultimate seminar of the Spring '08 Series. His topic, "Several techniques for modeling the propagation of monochromatic fields through transparent media" was well received at Grigg Hall on Friday afternoon. Bio and Abstract available PDF (33 KB).

April 4th

On the 4th of April, 2008, Dr. Dennis W. Prather, a College of Engineering Alumni Professor from the University of Delaware, gave a presentation on Millimeter Wave Photonics, "...which is driven by the vast opportunity and, concomitant, lack of available technology in this frequency range." The seminar was held in Grigg Hall at 2:30PM. Bio and Abstract available PDF (39 KB)

March 28th

Oklahoma State University Noble Foundation Chair of Physics and Regent's Professor Dr. Girish S. Agarwal addressed an audience of faculty, students and local industry Friday, March 28th, speaking on the topic, "Quantum Imaging and Sensing Beyond Rayleigh Resolution." An abstract and bio are available PDF (27 KB)

March 14th

The Spring '08 Seminar Series continued Friday March 14 with a presentation by Dr. Y. Fainman of the Department of ECE at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Fainman spoke on the topic, "Nanophotonics for Information Systems Integration." An abstract and bio are available PDF (27 KB)

Feb 8th

With the semester off to a good start, the "middle of winter" February 08 Optics Seminar brought forth discussion on the major challenges of high efficiency solar cells. Pictured queing up the show is Center Director Dr. Michael Fiddy with this week's presenter from UNC Chapel Hill's Institute for Advanced Materials, Nanoscience and Technology Dr. Rene Lopez. More info on the "Photonic Structuring of Bulk Heterojunction Organic Solar Cells" is available PDF (26 KB)

Jan 18th
Dr. Kirankumar Hiremath

The Optoelectronics Center launched its Spring '08 Seminar Series on January 18 with a presentation from outgoing Research Associate Kirankumar Hiremath, who is now on his way to his next post at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany. Dr. Hiremath spoke on the topic, “On electromagnetic fields in microresonators: Perturbational aspects" PDF (27 KB) at 2PM Friday in room 132 Grigg Hall. We all wish Kiran the best.

Next in the Series, look for Center Director Michael Fiddy to host a “Towne Meeting,” now a tradition early each semester where discussion is solicited and an overview of the Optics Center that includes a Funding update is given. ...More Info
